A Real Solid Start by FedX..

Roger strolled to victory in his first match in Rome today, defeating unseeded Ivo Karlovic 6-4, 6-4.
The big serving Croatian opened the match with two aces and Roger was forced to fight off a
breakball when serving for the first time. Nevertheless, our champ never really got into trouble,

doing exactly what he needed, to progress in just 1hour 8minutes.

Roger broke Karlovic early in both sets and had no more problems upon his own serve as from the start of the second.

It is Roger's 8th victory in 9 matches against the Croat, the one defeat was last summer in Cincinnati.Next up will be the winner of the match between Radek Stepanek (CZE/ATP 19) and Feliciano Lopez (ESP/ATP 32). Roger lost to Stepanek 6-7, 6-7 in last year's quarter final here in Rome.

Federer refocuses in Rome after wedding...

ROME (AP) -Roger Federer has refocused on tennis after getting married and then promptly losing to fellow Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters.
The 13-time Grand Slam winner spent the last week in intensive training with fitness coach Pierre Paganini, grinding out daily four-hour practice sessions on Italian clay courts.

``I'm expecting big things from myself, especially looking ahead for the French Open,'' Federer said Sunday on the eve of the Rome Masters, a key clay-court tuneup for Roland Garros, which begins May 25. ``I would like to go extremely far there and create the opportunity to win the one slam I haven't won yet.

``Monaco for me was just, 'Let's see how it goes,''' the second-ranked Federer said. ``With the wedding before I didn't have the preparation. ... I didn't expect to win the tournament, so I don't think we have to look too much into how I played there.
``I was missing serves and missing forehands. That's what I was trying to tighten up now, in this last week, when I was practicing extremely hard. I hope that this week it's going to show a little bit.''

Federer entered Monte Carlo immediately after marrying longtime girlfriend Mirka Vavrinec. The straight-set loss to Wawrinka stretched his title drought to seven tournaments.
Federer said he concentrated on his movement with Paganini and had 219th-ranked Stefan Koubek along as a hitting partner.

``The movement part is the big part on clay. The best clay-court players are the ones that move the best,'' Federer said, adding that his back troubles are long behind him.

Federer was upset by Radek Stepanek in the Rome quarterfinals last year. He will likely open up against Ivo Karlovic this time if the big-serving Croatian gets by a qualifier.

In the rankings, No. 3 Novak Djokovic and No. 4 Andy Murray are starting to pressure Federer, who has lost contact with top-ranked Rafael Nadal.

``I don't necessarily need to get to No. 1; I just need to win the French Open,'' Federer said. ``That's what my goal is.

``For me, it doesn't matter if I'm 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 or 10 in the world. For me, it's either No. 1 or somewhere else. Especially for me, who has been No. 1 for so long and won so many titles,'' Federer said.

``If you're not No. 1 then it's about winning titles and getting back No. 1. That's the position I'm in now.''
Federer has reached the final twice in Rome, losing to Felix Mantilla in 2003 and to Nadal in a fifth-set tiebreaker in 2006.

Federer pleased to soon play under the new Wimbledon roof..

Five-time champion Roger Federer likes the idea of the new centre court roof at Wimbleodn - something he's had experience with before on grass in Germany.

The Swiss said that while the moveable structure may be new to Wimbledon, players at Halle are well accustomed to the concept.

"I don't think it's going to change a whole lot (on court), but the good thing is there is going to be less wind on Centre court.

"I'm actually used to playing grass indoors. Halle has a sliding roof, as well, and I've played there under the roof"

.The No. 2, dethroned last summer by Rafael Nadal believes life will go better for players now at Wimbledon, famed for its weather delays.

"The fixed roof, the sliding roof, is just going to save us all - me, sponsors, fans, players",

It's just going to make it easier for everybody. There's always going to be a match on TV. That's always a good thing.
"For me, it's not going to be something incredibly new, but I'm completely excited that Wimbledon made that big step.
Thinking about where they were 10 years ago it's fantastic to see how they combine tradition with innovation.
"I think we're all very excited to see how the roof is going to be".

Roger's letter to his fans.. there is a good news!!

New snap !!

Latest from Monte Carlo press conference..

Here’s the latest from his Monte Carlo press conference. Lots of great stuff, from some details on the Wedding Day, Roger’s thrill at introducing Mirka as his wife, and his great relationship with clay.

I’ve included the entire thing, as it’s all pretty interesting.
Enjoy!

Q. Could you talk about your decision to play this event and what was the thinking?

ROGER FEDERER: Well, it was always an option for me, you know, since a long time. Finally it’s a tournament where, one of the Masters, you don’t get entered automatically, so it gives me an opportunity. I always wanted to keep it open in case I got married or something, and see how I felt and stuff.

Q. How is getting married and playing here connected? Forgive me. Is it sort of a honeymoon option?

ROGER FEDERER: Well, yeah, I mean, of course I spoke to Mirka. She was completely relaxed about whatever decision I took, you know. I feel like I’ve been on a honeymoon, you know, for the last years, so I don’t feel necessarily I need to go somewhere, to a special place, to celebrate with her. We’ve had a lot of nice moments over all those years. We don’t feel like we need it necessarily. And I wouldn’t miss, you know, being with you guys (smiling). It’s nice to be here with you guys.

Q. Is this a new start, after what you said when you left Miami, a new beginning?

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, well, it’s the clay season, you know, starts here. I’ve had good results the last few years here. It’s always exciting to change up your game a little bit and have a different mindset on how the points are being played.I was the second best clay courter for a long time now. Of course, I hope I can win the big one, you know, the French open down the road. That’s what the focus is here. But here it’s more about getting into the groove, you know, and hopefully winning some matches and playing well.

Q. Were the results in the U.S. Indian Wells and Miami any factor in you deciding to play here?

ROGER FEDERER: Well, I could have played, what, two more matches. So it’s not a big, big change. So, no, not really.I mean, I think the year has been better than last year. You know, I played the finals in Australia, the semis in both the Masters Series. I’ve been playing okay. I’ve been playing good, good results. But definitely not playing my best, you know, in the semis of both Masters Series.Actually, leaves me with hoping that, you know, if my game comes together, you know, the clay court season, I’ll have a good chance of going much further than just playing semis.

Q. Can you describe your moment in tennis and as a human being? How can you describe this moment? Is it unique as a human being and not fantastic like a tennis player?

ROGER FEDERER: What do you mean?

Q. Like a human being, because you got married.
ROGER FEDERER: About me getting married?
Q. Yes.
ROGER FEDERER: Yes, it’s a very special moment. I thought it to be a bit more relaxed, you know, because we’ve been together for so, so long. Once you get married, there’s not a whole lot that changes. But it definitely does change your mindset, your life.It was nice sharing the moment with my family, my closest friends. I got very emotional, you know, yet again. So it was very nice. It was just nice to know that, you know, she loves me so much, I love her so much. It was just a very nice day. We had perfect sky, perfect weather. It was just very, very nice.

Q. And like tennis?

ROGER FEDERER: As a tennis player at the moment, I feel good, too. I’ve played better in the past. I know that. But I’ve played much worse, as well.Like I said, I’m excited that the clay court season starts. I really like being close to home for a change for the next few months. Just makes traveling easier. I like the rallies on clay. I feel fresh. You know, I always said that, since I took six weeks off after Australia, let my back heal, I felt like I was able to get away from everything, and now I’m ready to attack. Actually, my mind is fresh, which I think is really key, you know, for my game.

Q. Are you considering taking on any extra coaching for the clay court season or doing anything differently from last year?

ROGER FEDERER: No, not for the moment.

Q. You tried with Darren. Things didn’t work out. What is the situation, in general, for coaching?

ROGER FEDERER: Nothing new at that front. I haven’t spoken to anyone. I’m not planning to speak to anyone really. It’s just me and the clay (smiling).

Q. You said the wedding changes your mindset. What particularly has it changed about your mindset?

ROGER FEDERER: I didn’t mean it about tennis. Just, you know, it’s nice to be calling Mirka my wife and not my girlfriend. That’s just a big change for me. Takes maybe a bit of getting used to. So it’s good. I’m here, introducing her, This is my wife. It just sounds so much better (smiling). I didn’t think it was going to make that big of a change for me, but it does feel great.

Q. Were there any tears on your wedding day emotionally, or just on the tennis?

ROGER FEDERER: A few tears here and there. It was nice (smiling).

Q. Yours or somebody else’s?

ROGER FEDERER: Both.

Q. Did you already decide the name of your son?

ROGER FEDERER: Not yet. You know, we’ll see. There’s quite a few books around that are that thick, so we’ll see where it takes us.But, no, we haven’t decided anything yet. Yeah, I have no clue yet right now myself. Thank God we got time left, right, to decide.

Q. When did you and Mirka decide to get married? When did you decide on the date?

ROGER FEDERER: Well, we’ve been talking about it for many years now. But last year was kind of busy. All of a sudden it was the Olympics, you know, so it made it difficult to kind of get it organized. So we figured, Let’s wait and do it next year. And we always knew that if we do it, we do it pretty quickly, you know, because I didn’t want to have a huge wedding. So thank God the places where we got married were ready, you know, to take us onboard, because it was still Easter Saturday, many things were closed. But they made exceptions for us, which is very nice. And, you know, basically 95% of the people we invited could come, so they changed their schedules around for us. So everything really worked out really well for us, otherwise we would have waited and done it maybe one month down the road or maybe one year down the road. But everything worked out for this last weekend.

Q. But it was just a few weeks ago that you decided on that day?

ROGER FEDERER: Pretty much, yeah. Things move quickly (smiling).

Q. How difficult was it to keep it secret?

ROGER FEDERER: Not really, you know. I have good friends who keep things quiet, you know. Sure, you try to tell everyone, Please respect the privacy, and everything. But if you want to get married in private, you have to go to Switzerland. They don’t actually care over there. They actually want to give you peace and privacy. That’s why I love being a Swiss and living in Switzerland.

Q. Did you invite any tennis players?

ROGER FEDERER: No. They were playing. No, I didn’t invite anybody. It was really just very close friends and family. So it was just really tight the way I was always hoping to have it.

Q. Was it in a church or like a town hall?

ROGER FEDERER: It was in Basel. That’s all I’m going to tell you, yes (smiling). I felt like it was the right thing to do, so I’m happy to be here.

He got married female fans must watch =) Here are some snaps

Something about his early Life

He belongs from the heavenly country Switzerland and does not only have the sports ability but also the dashing looks, and charms, because of which he has a huge female fans following.

Roger is the son of a Swiss-German man Robert Federer and a South African woman Lynette Federer. He spent his childhood and grew up in a small Swiss town Basel, very near to the border of France and Germany.

Roger can speak altogether of three languages fluently, which are German, French, and English. He is completely familiar with all three languages because he is seen conducting various press conferences in all of these languages. Though he considers German to be his main language, and mostly prefers speaking German.

As he is himself grown learning a mixture of three languages, he has faced one common question all his life and that is about the correct pronunciation of his first name. To this he has always answered that his name has been pronounced in the English language always because of the fact that his mother is from South Africa.

Roger has himself accepted at various places that when he was a young boy, he was very fussy and was known to throw tantrums in the court. Because of this attitude he was several times driven out of the court as a punishment. He has also admitted that he used to skip off the court practice very often. Today we have a completely different, well-polished, cool and calm playing style Roger in front of us.

He was associated with FC Basel which was his hometown club, he was a member off in his early life and the dedication to it is so sincere that he still continues to support it enthusiastically, and is also a fan of the Italian club AS Roma.

Roger is also known to be a very consistent and fervent soccer player in his early days of life. There was a point in his life where he thought of professionally choosing soccer has his career but then he got more inclined towards a career in tennis.

Roger first tried playing tennis when he was only six years old. The initial curiosity turned into his interest when he started having group lessons at the age of nine. He then went on taking private coaching to further enhance his abilities at the age of ten.

It was at the age of 14 when it started to appear to the world that he had this gifted innate sill for tennis when he accomplished the title of the champion of all the groups of tennis in Switzerland at this tender age. He was then chosen in the SNTC, Swiss National Tennis Centre at Ecublens to be trained. In the year 1996 he joined the junior tennis circuit.

His final year as a junior was in 1998, he won the juniors Wimbledon title and the Orange Bowl. His first world recognition then followed and he was awarded the title of the
World Junior Tennis champion for the year.

As every individual young child he used to idolize his favorite tennis player Marcelo Rios Amongst his favorites are also Stefan Edberg and Boris Becker.

His Persnol Life and Versatile Playing Style

<<>>

Federer was born in Basel, to Swiss-German Robert Federer and South African Lynette Federer (Durand). He grew up in suburban Münchenstein, ten minutes from Basel and close to the borders of France and Germany.Federer considers Swiss German his first language. He also speaks German, French and English fluently, and conducts press conferences in all four. He is Roman Catholic and met Pope Benedict XVI while playing the 2006 Internazionali BNL d'Italia tournament in Rome.

In addition to tennis, he also played football as a boy and considered becoming a professional footballer before deciding to pursue a career in tennis. He is a fervent supporter of his hometown club FC Basel. As a youngster, he enjoyed watching former world #1 Chilean player Marcelo Ríos in action. In addition to Rios, he especially liked Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg, and has cited the three as his idols.

Federer is also highly involved in various charities. He established the Roger Federer Foundation in 2003 to help disadvantaged people and to promote sports to youth. He was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF in 2006. Since then, he has visited South Africa and Tamil Nadu, one of the worst tsunami-affected areas in India. He has also appeared in UNICEF public messages to raise public awareness of AIDS.

Federer is married to former-Women's Tennis Association player Miroslava "Mirka" Vavrinec. They met while competing for Switzerland in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Vavrinec retired from the tour in 2002 because of a persistent foot injury and has since been working as Federer's public relations manager. They were married in Basel on 11 April 2009, surrounded by a small group of close friends and family, and are expecting their first child.
In 2007, Federer was photographed by Annie Leibowitz as King Arthur. This was part of a series of photographs of celebrities for Disney's Year of a Million Dreams project.

He maintains a close relationship with musician Gavin Rossdale, pro golfer Tiger Woods and pro footballer Thierry Henry. He was recently in an ad for men's razors with Woods and Henry.. and he is looking very handsome in that ad..

<<>>

Now some lines about his playing style. Federer has a versatile, all-court playing style and can hit all of the fundamental shots with a high degree of proficiency. His versatility was epitomised when Jimmy Connors said "In an era of specialists - you're either a clay court specialist, a grass court specialist or a hard court specialist... or you're Roger Federer".

He is an adept volleyer and an excellent baseliner who can dictate play with precise groundstrokes from both wings. While there seems to be no definite answer regarding which forehand grip he uses, most agree the grip is between eastern and slightly semi-western. He can generate extreme top-spin with the forehand, allowing him to open up cross-court angles while still hitting the ball with pace.

He keeps his eyes locked on the contact point longer than most players and keeps his head fairly still despite his speed of swing. David Foster Wallace described the exceptional speed, fluidity and brute force of this forehand motion as "a great liquid whip", while John McEnroe has referred to it as "the greatest shot in our sport". Federer plays with a one-handed backhand, and has an excellent slice, and can also fire top-spin winning shots.Federer tends to hit his groundstrokes early, while the ball is still on the rise, much like Andre Agassi did. While this requires excellent reactions and footwork, it means that Federer hits his groundstrokes closer to the net than most of his opponents. This reduces the reaction time of his opponents and allows him to hit the angled winners that are a trademark of his game.

His serve is difficult to read because he tosses the ball in the same spot no matter where he intends to serve it and he turns his back to his opponents during his motion. His first serve is typically around 190 km/h (However, he is capable of serving at 220 km/h).
